Following on from the hugely popular Winemakers Selection of 2018, Walmart aimed even higher, launching 11 new varietals in 2019 – its Sauvignon Blanc one of its most unique. Amazingly, the coastal New Zealand vineyard from which it’s sourced is mowed sustainably using Baby Doll Sheep, and its proprietor plays classical music to the vines to promote healthy growth.
To convey the varietal’s unconventional origins, while working to an eight-week pre-press artwork deadline, we incorporated a die cut label depicting the vineyard’s rolling hills and resident sheep – alongside a gramophone beaming musical notes, which gracefully meld into the vine. Thick cotton paper stock with a matte de-boss gives weight to the sheep’s wool and adds texture, as silver foil provides a soft highlight. These exceptional elements, executed beautifully and artfully, engage millennial wine drinkers while demonstrating quality and ensuring standout in a mature and fully populated category.
