Halloween Design Challenge at Equator

If we were to have a vote on our favourite holiday, Christmas would perhaps get the most mentions. But without doubt, Halloween does also rank highly and has certainly grown in popularity over recent years.

Think about it, you don’t have to spend a fortune on gifts, or plan a mammoth family dinner. Nobody is upset if they’re not asked out for Halloween or received a card. There just isn’t the same level of stress involved with Halloween, is there? Delightfully spooky decorations are available, along with an opportunity to dress up in innovative costumes and enjoy a delicious spree of chocolates and other sweet treats.

Halloween is jam packed with fun activities such as costume parties, carving pumpkin lanterns, trick or treating, apple bobbing, playing scary games or telling ghost stories. So whether you manage to ward off any ghosts this Halloween, what is definitely promised is a night full of spooky festivity!

And in the midst of creepy frolics, who can forget all of the horror movies that hog the ‘must watch’ lists this time of the year. Watching a good horror movie is a perfect way to relish the mix of thrills and chills Halloween season has to offer. The horror genre might be sometimes seen as lowbrow entertainment, but beyond ‘slasher movies,’ the genre has a wide array of artistic masterpieces and genuine cultural icons. The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920), Psycho (1960) and The Shining (1980), to mention just a few, are all-time classics that changed the course of cinematography. Horror genre has also inspired some of the most iconic poster art. The original poster design for Rosemary’s Baby (1968), The Exorcist (1973), and Silence of the Lamb (1991) for example are both, clearly beautiful and unforgettable iconic designs.

This year, Equator Design was fortunate to re-design Co-op’s Halloween Range. The re-design gave us the frightful challenge of making the brand’s seasonal products look fun and engaging, and of course, spooky. To celebrate the successful launch of the range we set ourselves a Halloween Design Challenge; to design a series of horror movie posters that would stretch and challenge our imagination and creative skills.

As something quite different from what we do in our day-to-day jobs, the process was incredibly fun and the results speaks for themselves. We are very proud to have an exceptional team of creatives with a wide range of specialist skills; from concept art, typography, hand-lettering, illustration, painting, photography, art direction, food styling and set design. To view the posters in detail visit our Behance gallery. At Equator we always rise to any occasion and we’re not afraid of anything!

Happy Halloween!
