Equator achieves record-breaking result at 2024 Vertex Awards

We’re still in the midst of our victory lap after bagging an incredible 17 private brand design wins at this year’s Vertex Awards! Yes, you read that right – seventeen! It’s our biggest haul ever, and we couldn’t be prouder. The awards are split across eight retailers and span three continents, showcasing both our global reach and the strength of our team’s cross-border collaboration.

The Vertex Awards are a big deal in our world. They’re the only global competition that focuses solely on the craft of private brand package design. That’s our playground – and winning here is like scoring the winning goal in a World Cup final. And, as with football or as our US colleagues call it, soccer, this year’s result comes down to the hard work of our team; a talented bunch of food stylists, photographers, designers and illustrators, who really brought their A-game this year.

Winning at the Vertex Awards is also a massive nod to the trust and freedom our clients give us, which truly fuels our creativity.

The winning projects

The judging panel of industry experts bestowed three of our projects with gold awards, including our work with Aldi US on the packaging for Mama Cozzi’s Margherita Pumpkin Crust and Three Cheese Beet Crust Pizzas which was lauded for playfully celebrating their unique ingredients.

Our designs for Giant Eagle’s Market District Coffee Pods, which used bold illustration to foreground product provenance, and our unique visual identity for Schnucks’ line of craft sodas, which used individual character illustrations for each flavour, also picked up gold awards, while our design for Albertsons O Organic tea bags, featuring beautifully shot ingredient cues, won a silver alongside four other projects ranging from advent calendars to premium liquors.

Amongst the bronze-award-winning projects were our redesign of Morrisons value-tier ‘Savers’ range; our new visual identity for Lowe’s home décor brand Origin 21; our label design for a Salice Salentino wine within Co-Op’s ‘Irresistible’ range; and our rebrand of DFI Retail Group’s VitaPet range, with each project showcasing a deep understanding of the market and the client’s objectives.

Our fantastic team

Reflecting on these wins, Michael Duffy, our SVP and Global Creative Director said: “We’re completely bowled over by the outcome of this year’s Vertex Awards, which is a huge milestone for us and testament to our team, who are dedicated to making every product on the shelf as visually captivating as possible.

“We are immensely proud of them and grateful to the Vertex Awards for recognising their efforts. This is a celebration not just of their talent, but also of the trust our clients place in us to bring their brands to life. We’re honoured to work with such forward-thinking, customer-focused organisations.”

Looking ahead

“So, what now?” you might ask. Well, we bask in the glory, of course! But it doesn’t stop here. This recognition is a charge to keep innovating, to keep pushing the envelope, and to keep creating packaging designs that not only win awards but consumers’ hearts.

A massive thank you to the Vertex Awards for this honour and to our clients for continuing to trust in our passion for making their brands shine. We’re excited for what’s next and promise to keep bringing our best to the table.

Here’s to creativity!
