She’s back: why Marjorie Murphy is rejoining the Equator team

We’re thrilled to announce that Marjorie Murphy is returning to Equator as Senior Client Service Director. She’s already slotted back into the team as though she never left, bringing the energy, curiosity and strategic thinking that made her such an integral part of our story first time round, when she held dual roles as VP Client Service UK/IE/Australia and Global Strategy Director.

A strong track record

During her previous tenure, Marjorie was at the core of developing our strategic proposition – that true end-to-end experience we offer clients – from initial thinking all the way through to seamless delivery. She significantly grew our US business with major brand projects and built strong client partnerships that kept delivering results even through the extraordinary challenges of Covid-19.

Since leaving us in 2022, Marjorie has been working as a self-employed brand strategy consultant with businesses in the UK and US, constantly looking outward at the marketplace, studying consumer behaviour, and staying curious about what’s next. Now she’s bringing those insights back to Equator.

Comprehensive experience

What makes Marjorie so effective is a combination of experience and perspective. She’s worked on both sides of the table – retail and brand, agency and client-side – across commercial, operational, and strategic roles.

Our Global Creative Director & SVP Business Development, Michael Duffy, has a saying: “None of us are as smart as all of us.” It’s a philosophy Marjorie shares, believing that the best teams build something bigger than the sum of their parts. And because she’s sat in so many different seats, she knows exactly which questions to ask to unlock fresh thinking.

As Michael puts it: “Marjorie’s experience means she can see challenges from multiple angles. That, combined with her natural curiosity about the market, makes her an invaluable member of the team. She’s fit right back in as though she never left, and we’re excited about what we’ll achieve together over the coming years.”

Creativity and collaboration

On her return to Equator, Marjorie comments: “I’ve always been really passionate about this business and what makes it special. You can feel and see the creativity in every studio and in every member of the team. There’s something powerful about having so much talent working under one roof – collaborating closely, sharing ideas freely, and bringing bold thinking to life, together.”

Marjorie also sees exciting prospects on the horizon for Equator. “With the business coming together under Propelis, there’s a huge opportunity for further growth and I’m excited to be a part of it. We’re at a great stage where teams can grow and develop into that bigger business – and that’s where I’m hoping to play a significant part.”

A vision for what’s next

At the heart of Marjorie’s approach is the idea of being an “irreplaceable partner” to our clients. “My vision is for us to be the best version of ourselves as a business and individually,” she explains. “That means not just delivering brilliantly today but anticipating challenges and spotting opportunities.”

She’s particularly passionate about helping brands evolve in a way that feels authentic. “Brands are under pressure to evolve in response to changing consumer behaviour and market trends, but they need to do it in a way that feels authentic and be congruent. Our role is to bring that outside perspective, helping them stay fresh and exciting, while protecting the DNA of who they are.”

In her new role, Marjorie will focus on ensuring client satisfaction, growing accounts profitably across EMEA and North America, and developing both our teams and our client partnerships. When we asked what she’s most looking forward to, her answer was immediate: “The people here are just brilliant at what they do, and I really enjoy working with them. Together I feel the opportunities are endless.”

Howard Wright, Executive Creative & Strategic Director, EMEA & Canada For brands selling products high in fat, salt or sugar, the rules of the game just changed significantly. Cracking the Design Language of Trust

Consumers today have their guard up – and who can blame them? The Full Circle of Creativity: Illustration

When it comes to pack design, illustration is a powerful tool. Versatile and expressive, it can help set the mood – and consumer expectations – by contributing to the story that packaging tells about a brand or product. In this instalment of ‘The Full Circle of Creativity’ our Creative Director Martin Orme paints the full […]
