Equator takes home TEN private brand design wins at 2023 Vertex Awards

That’s right, team; we’re delighted to reveal that your hard work won us ten accolades at this year’s Vertex Awards, including – for the fourth year running – Large Agency of the Year!

The golden gong was awarded for our design of DFI Retail Group’s ‘Number Eight’ facemasks, which  utilised textured background illustrations and a strong colour strategy for on-shelf navigation. The design successfully appealed to ‘clean beauty’ loving consumers in Hong Kong and Southeast Asia, which was the client’s ambition. We were also awarded a silver for our work with the retailer on the full redesign of their baby brand, as well as a bronze for the full overhaul of its mid-tier price point brand, which included designs for a kids’ range of health products.

Our collaboration with retailers Morrisons and Kwik Trip yielded a further four awards. For Morrisons, we received a silver for our design of their Taste of the World ready meals range – where the team captured the essence of each cuisine in a graphical way that made sense to their customers. We were also given a bronze for our redesign of Morrisons’ ‘The Best’ fizzes, which channelled the carefree living of the roaring twenties and created a recognisable, cohesive family of drinks within this premium range.

For Kwik Trip, the Vertex judges awarded us silver for the redesign of its Nature’s Touch flavoured waters, which made packs inviting and flavourful, and bronze for the redesign of its limited-edition ice-creams, completely transforming the existing packaging and bringing the products to life on shelf.

We scooped two additional bronze awards for our work with client partners Schnucks and Sam’s Club. For Sam’s Club, the team created a design for S’Mores Bark, a unique, limited-edition confectionary item, while for Schnucks, they created a bold visual identity for Maxed Out Chips, a subcategory of wavy chips with a ‘double seasoned’ offering.

Michael Duffy, group creative director described the slew of awards as “testament to the team’s commitment to gaining an in-depth understanding not only of our clients’ brands but also their categories, consumer base and competitors”. He added: “We’re lucky to have clients with such creative vision, who work alongside us and trust us to be responsible guardians of their brands.”

Rachel Johnson our global MD added: “As the only global competition devoted to private brand packaging design, the Vertex Awards are a great yardstick for measuring our success. Winning Large Agency of the Year for the fourth-year running is a great feeling. The entire team is on a high! We look forward to continuing to create compelling designs for our fantastic roster of clients.”

A huge well done to all of the teams involved in these award-winning projects!
