Equator Manchester designer volunteers to create a smashing new logo for Leeds Powerchair FC

Leeds Powerchair FC, one of the leading powerchair football clubs in West Yorkshire in the UK, has unveiled a charismatic new club logo designed on a volunteer basis by our own Nick Wilson. The brief was sent to the team and several designers put forward compelling concepts (thank you, all) but Nick’s was the one that shone out.

Nick, Associate Creative Director at our Manchester studio and a member of the Equator team since 2017, collaborated closely with the club’s management to develop a logo that would reflect the values and ambitions of Leeds Powerchair FC.

Nick says, “When I received the email that Russ, who’s Director Global Operations at our Manchester Equator site, was looking for someone to redesign the logo for his son’s powerchair football club, I signed on immediately. From the outset, I wanted to address this project just like I would any Equator project, fully researching and understanding the team, its players and supporters, the Club’s goals and trajectory, as well as what’s current in UK football club logo design and regional colourways. The goal was to capture the essence of the club in a single, impactful image which would look equally as amazing on posters, banners, uniforms, the website, and on social media.”

The Design Process

For the new logo, Nick employed a circle logo device to symbolise the large football used in matches and the wheels on the powerchair. The shield device brings a traditional team element with 3 stripes highlighting the powerchair’s unique frame. The football icon above the frame shows the ball bouncing off and also a smile which is on the players and spectators faces. The Club’s founding date 2012 has been incorporated, which also links to historic football badges.

Leeds Powerchair FC now have a fresh and dynamic visual identity that proudly represents their beloved club. It will be prominently displayed on the club’s official website, social media platforms, merchandise, team kit, and clothing.

Nick adds, “This has been a smashing project. I wasn’t previously familiar with powerchair football, and it has been fantastic to learn about the sport, the people involved, and the absolute joy that it brings to Russ, his son and so many other families. I will be tremendously proud when I see the players sporting their new logo on their uniforms in their future matches.”

Kenny Watson, Chair of Leeds Powerchair FC, comments, “We are thrilled to unveil our new club logo, which marks an exciting chapter in the history of Leeds Powerchair FC. Nick Wilson’s exceptional talent and passion for design have resulted in a logo that truly represents our club’s identity and aspirations. We are grateful to Equator Design for their collaboration and support throughout this process.”

Leeds Powerchair FC, founded in 2012, has a strong presence in the powerchair football community and competes at both regional and national levels. The club has a dedicated team of players, coaches, and supporters who share a common goal of promoting inclusivity, teamwork, and the love of the sport.
